The official SLIKOUR website.

About

Siyabonga “Slikour” Metane is one of the founding members of the record breaking South African Hip Hop group Skwatta Kamp , as a member of Skwatta Kamp, Slikour noticed a niche in the market and took it in his strides to develop a successful solo career. In 2005 Slikour released his first album “The Ventilation Mixtape Vol.1”, once released there was no turning back for the artist nor would the public let him quit, hence a highly successful “Ventilation Mixtape Vol. 2” in 2007.

The Ventilation Mixtape series is about merging young artists that think alike in a space of creativity, everything expressed on both the Ventilation Mixtape series was thought of, memorised and delivered in-studio. Slikour gives both albums an assertive tone and his sincerity and wackiness comes across where necessary on the album’s but still shows his human side of sincere fears & vulnerabilities, which to a large extent represents any young mans hopes and values in the new South Africa.

Slikour has been nominated for a SAMA (South African Music Award) at the 14th and 15th Annual South African Music Awards, a Channel O Music Award & winner of public vote category “Hit Single Of The Year” at the 2008 Metro Fm Music Awards for the massive record “Umsindo”. The domination of this artist at all South Africa’s award shows with the likes of not only performing at the first ever Stars of Mzansi but also presenting the leading R1 Million Award alongside Miss South Africa, which was a huge honour along with presenting the “Best Dance Album Award” at the 2008 SAMA’s.

With Slikour’s humble beginnings, there is no doubt that he would not give back to charity. The work done for several charities is priceless. The chart topping track “Dreamer” taken from the “Ventilation Mixtape Vol.2” was selected to be the official song for the Heartlines Stand For Good Campaign, which encouraged member’s of the public to perform acts of kindness to their fellow countrymen. The Reach for a Dream Foundation has also requested that Slikour be one of their ambassador’s.

In early 2009 Slikour was requested to be the South African representative for the Miller’s Global Fresh Collective Campaign (GFC). The GFC is an innovative group of thinkers from around the world, all with a deep interest in, passion for and love of emerging music talent and related creative subjects. Slikour will be travelling the shores as the SA representative later in 2009.

Keeping the youth close to his heart, Slikour has become a role model for aspiring music artists and when he speaks to the youth they relate and look up to him not only as a music pioneer but also as a businessman they can model themselves against and draw inspiration from, with investments in transport, property and entertainment.

Buttabing Entertainment, started in 2002, has not only become a leading hip hop label but the portfolio expands to Ventilation Productions which has developed into a dynamic music & entertainment agency established in 2006. This is all credit to the resistance of gratification from Slikour and business partner Lebogang “Shugasmakx” Mothibe alongside a dedicated, young and vibrant workforce.

2010 was a terrific year for Skwatta Kamp founding member “Slikour,” musically and personally. Right off the back of a countrywide tour with Skwatta Kamp, Jozi, HHP and TKZee. He then collaborated with various African artists, stable mate Kwesta and Kelly Rowland’s in “Everywhere You Go” MTN’s 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP anthem which culminated with a live performance at the World Cup closing ceremony viewed by 500million people worldwide and a crowd 85000 at Soccer City.

His long-time girlfriend Jill Mulligan gave birth to their first son Silidokuhle Noah Metane on the 27 th of September and two months later, his other baby finally arrived in the form of music. Released on the 30th of November 2010, “VV3” or Ventilation Volume 3 is the rapper’s third solo offering. The album features Tamara Dey (Flash Republic), Zaki Ibrahim, Kwesta, Donald, Ziyon (Liquideep), La Vuvuzela, Kabelo (TKZee), Tumisho Masha and Craig Hinds (Watershed).

This year (2011) he’ll be working on completing his music series, touring through-out the year,

“VV3 The Movie” In his own words – “This Year is Ventilation’s!”

  6. mr slikour i hav to take my hat off to you..i just read the latest issue of hype and man ur views ar on point south african media has made artist from the us to be mainstream than our own artists..south african artist mostly dont recieve as much airplay as the guys from the us…we find u.s artist more entartaining and interesting than SA artist which will probarly led to south african music not growing…because i for one would hav really loved to be a music producer/ rapper but i saw that as not being a way i could support my self…we undermine our music so what do we expext the world to do!

I am Thokozani Dlamini young person living at East Rand, me and local radio call “Kasie Fm 97.1” will be embarking on a deed of goodwill as part of the global acknowledgement of Mandela day on Monday 18 July 2011, this is to celebrate the 67 years that former president Nelson Mandela dedicated to better the lives of fellow beings.
We will be paying a visit to a house in Kwa-Thema extension 2 to see a woman who has been living with HIV for 12 years, she lives on ARVs.she lives with a 7year old boy who was repeatedly raped for 2years,the boy has been damaged internally and needs attention so he can experience normal childhood.
