Press Play: Let It Show (feat. J Cole)
Press Play: Celebration (feat. T-Pain)
Under the Young Money stable we’ve seen Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj have phenomenal commercial success.
Next up on the roster or rather next under pressure to achieve the commercial feats of Young Money is Tyga with Careless World-Rise of the Last King.
I’ve been listening to Tyga since his mixtape days and I remember putting my money on him over Drake, before he blew up.
Well clearly that was a miscalculation and one of the arguments from my peers back then was, what is Tyga talking about?
Listening to the album that question resonates.
On this album Tyga spits hard like all his other mixtapes but his content is everywhere.
The need to create superstar hit comes across on many occasions with typical Wayne formulas on tracks like Muthafucka Up featuring Nicki Minaj,Faded featuring Lil Wayne and a typical Lil Wayne move of featuring Robin Thicke on This Is Like, the formula inspiration wouldn’t be complete without the Drake suited I’m Gone featuring Big Sean and Rack City.
Not to say these songs are bad, its just nothing new and it makes it difficult to establish what Tyga is about.
He really stands out when he does himself on tracks like Black Crowns, the radio friendly celebration with T-Pain, King and Queens with Nas and Wale and the soulful Let it Show featuring J-Cole.
One real positive is that the featured artists really come through J-Cole,Nas,Lil Wayne and Wale really bring it.
The album is a great listen and probably would of had more impact if it was shorter and more defining, 21 tracks is too much if you dont have the content.
I’ve posted two of my favourite songs from the album above
