Press Play: GRIFFY GRIFF FEAT MR SELWYN, KAY E & KEYLA – IN THIS WORLD

So Griff shared with me his story of how this song was composed and brace yourself cause its a bit long. It goes something like this.

Well its late December 2012 i had booked a studio session with Kay E to work on a few tracks for my third tape Young black and Hungry Volume 2. We get to the studio with Mr Selwyn and i start playing random instrumentals for Kay E and we come across 1 from DJ Hitec (In This World) and Selwyn starts freestyling over it, we also had a vocalist Kyla in studio who is vocalist and he starts mumbling the hook.
We didnt decide on a concept initally, we just freestyled over the beat for a few minutes, then Selwyn went into the booth, his verse painted a vivid picture of what goes through the mind of a person who sees no other option but to resort to crime so that he can survive the game of life. I dont think i have to explain to anyone how ill Selwyn is and in this track he brings his killer flow and delivary with some very relevant content.
Kyla had the hook done : I`m in the game tryna find my self… and with that said, the tone of the song was set.
Kay E was next, speaking on the repercussions of crime and on how he doesnt want the next man to go to prison for being a typical thug and chosing not to live on n the straight and narrow. He gives a very vivid explanation of what happens to most criminals i the ghetto (you either go to Prison of you get killed) and uses his witt to use him as an example of some one the community can be proud of “… CALL ME THE GHETTO CALCULATOR… THEY CAN COUNT ON ME…”
Then it was my turn, Selwyn, Kyla and Kay E had KILLED this song so far with being real, so i saw it better to do the same, so i used my very own life, making reffrerence to what i normally going through : having our family on your back (financially) when they need you by having a stable job even though you could be out making music as the beginning to my verse. I also touch on current affairs like politics and how unfair and demotivating life ‘In this world’ can be, especially when youre YOUNG BLACK AND HUNGRY.
